Pure Genius!

geniusWhoever came up with the name Genius for these products was sure on their game.  That is because these products really are pure genius.  They promise soft, moisturized skin with improved texture and tone, elasticity and firmness.  And I can tell you . ..  .

In as little as 2 hours:

• 90% revealed significantly smoother skin texture.

• 90% exhibited more radiant skin.

• 80% showed significant improvement in skin clarity.

After 2 weeks:

• 96% showed significant improvement in skin clarity.

• 94% exhibited more radiant skin.

• 75% had improved skin firmness and elasticity. Based on an expert clinical graded study.

(results from Arbonne website and independent clinical trial).

Botanicals.  Safe and pure substances from nature.  Skin just loves those botanicals.

Phytinol – from alfalfa and chicory plants, rejuvenates and signals cells – promotes cell turnover and clear, brighter skin

Ceramide – a complex molecule of sea buckthorn oil and olive oil that help moisturize

Red Algae – firms and tones skin

These are gathered together in a polypeptide that supports the elastin and collagen in our skin.  Topical collagen is too big of a molecule to absorb into the skin. So,  we can’t actually put more collagen on our skin but we can support the collagen we have.   Also in the Genius products are retinoids which help fade dark spots and remove skin discoloration. Again cells are turned over much like microdermabrasion or chemical peels.  Mandelic acid is an alpha-hydoxy acid that comes from bitter almonds.  These products all work together for improved skin.   I have definitely seen results. So many others have also – there are tons of testimonials out there.    Here is a little video for you: Arbonne Intelligence Genius

fresh pour

The results from the Genius products is equivalent to some results you get at a  dermatologists office.  For much less cost.  Message me for more info or check out my website – Deb’s Arbonne       I always offer my followers at least a 20% discount.

I love that your pour the active product out of a sealed bottle.  You know that’s fresh.  With these botanicals and moisturizers you avoid the redness and irritation you might get with other such products.

Do you love your job?

Seriously, do you love your job?

Are you joking? you say . . . .

You need to love your job because you spend most of your life working.  If you work 40 hours per week – then you work 2080 hours per year.  Say you work for 40 years – that is 83,200 hours of your life – AT WORK.

So . . . .that is a lot of time to spend at something you don’t love.

There is that saying out there, “if you follow your passion and do what you love, you will never work another day in your life”.  I believe we were all meant to follow our passion, enjoy our work and do a really good job at it.  Our work should fulfill us.  How often is that the case these days?  Sadly, not very often.  I feel so blessed that I have always loved my job.  My passion is helping others feel good – sharing information that can help them in their lives.  For many years as a nurse and Nurse Practitioner I have been fortunate to witness positive changes in people.

But often, even if we love WHAT we do, we don’t necessarily love WHO we do it for.  It is so hard to work hard, put in a lot of hours doing your very best only to see that it’s the CEO or “person at the top” that makes the profit.   Now I have my own business – I am directly rewarded for working hard.  My job now is to share products that people enjoy using, that make them look better and feel better about themselves.  I also get to help others start their own businesses.  This is the most rewarding!  I am so grateful that I can show people how to make an extra $500 or $1000 per month.  For some this has been the difference in being able to keep their homes.  Now that is rewarding!   And yes –

Follow your passion and you will never work another day in your life!

I followed my passion, so I never have to work another day in my life.  I inspire others, coach them, support them and see them reach their goals.

0216_arbonne_global_training_conference_celebration_eventIf you are at all interested in health, wellness, fitness, make up or skincare – you can start your own business for under $100 dollars.  You will have support every step of the way.  If you have a laptop and a cell phone – you can run a business.  I really would love to show you how . I will be posting a video in the next few days talking about how we all need a Plan B.  I would be happy to send you information and there is no commitment –  if it’s not for you then you might know someone else who would be interested?     comment below or email me with questions or for more info.   deb     http://www.dlewisarbonne@gmail.com

My Friend Frank!

frankincensce    Today I am showcasing FRANKINCENSE essential oil.  Yes, this oil is my friend and I use it every single day!  In fact, I have noticed everyone in my house has started using my friend everyday.   Hmmm – must be pretty good, right?

Frankincense (Boswellia carterii) has been sought after since ancient times. The oil comes from the resin of the Boswellia tree pictured above.  These trees are found in Africa and the Middle East. The complex aroma of this oil can elevate many aspects of your life. Diffusing frankincense oil has effects on your spirit and emotions. It seems to improve my focus and help me come up with new ideas and work out problems.

Frankincense essential oil has an earthy, slightly spicy and warm aroma. The Young Living website says: “Create a safe and comforting environment when you diffuse or inhale this empowering oil—a perfect opportunity to collect your thoughts. When you seek purpose or engage in prayer or meditation, use this oil to enhance your experience.”

In addition to elevated spiritual experiences,  Frankincense essential oil is  great for your skin. It smooths your skin and makes it more radiant.  This is an oil that has been used since ancient times for beauty products.

What makes these oils work, anyway?

The monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes are the most valuable elements of frankincense oil.  According to the book Reference Guide for Essential Oils by Connie and Alan Higley, monoterpenes help prevent and discharge toxins from your liver and kidneys, and have antiseptic, antibacterial, stimulating, analgesic (weak), and expectorant properties.   Meanwhile, sesquiterpenes can go beyond the blood-brain barrier and simulate the limbic system of your brain, as well as your hypothalamus, and pineal and pituitary glands.

Here is a little beauty secret – Frankincense oil was used by Egyptian royalty to maintain beautiful, firm and wrinkle free skin.  It was also one the gifts the 3 Wise Men presented to baby Jesus.

I put 1-2 drops of Frankincense oil in with my facial moisturizer every evening – it smells good and is so good for my skin.  The oil improves cellular function, promotes regeneration of skin cells and is also an astringent.  Soooo . . . . good for your skin!

Look back at my previous post where I cite a couple references of how frankincense has been shown to destroy certain cancer cells.  The sources and links to the scientific data is in that post.

Now that you have met my friend, Frank – what do you think?  Need a friend like Frank?  Let me know if you have tried frankincense oil and how you use it.   Thanks and I hope these posts are helpful.   For further information follow this link .  I would love to help you get started with essential oils, so feel free to message me with questions.  See you tomorrow!    deb

lavender Tell me, can anyone really look at that lavender field and not smell the lavender and instantly feel calm and relaxed?

I really love almost any essential oil I try.  But, for day one of “An Oil a Day” I decided to showcase Lavender.  It is, in my opinion one of the most useful oils, with many uses and most well known to everyone.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) has a scent that’s a wonderful blend of fresh, floral, clean, and calm.  Because of this dynamic aroma this flower is a classic for perfumes, soaps, fresheners, and beauty products.   Lavender essential oil isn’t just a favorite because of its classic scent—but also because it has so many uses.

Lavender oil is a great beginner oil and a must for every home.

Here are a few ways you can use Lavender essential oil:

  1. Put a few drops into a diffuser and the scent will create a calming, relaxed feeling in the room.  This is great at night in your bedroom.
  2. Fill a squirt bottle with water, add a few drops and use as a “spritz” for pillows and linens to aid in relaxation and sleep.
  3. Add a few drops to your favorite fragrance free lotion and use on your skin.  It is great for calming redness in the skin.
  4. Many people use lavender oil to help with allergies.  I have found that a drop applied inside each nostril stops that sniffly, sneezing, itchy nose that happens when my allergies flare up.  Since this isn’t a medication – you can reapply as often as you wish.

In my home we all use the Lavender for allergies – even the kids.  It has done wonders and my young grandchildren reach for the Lavender when they have that itchy runny nose!  When I use it topically in my nose, my allergy symptoms are gone in a short time.

Lavender Relaxation Soak

  • Fill the bathtub with really warm water.
  • Add 1 cup of Epsom salts or Dead Sea Salt

bowl of lavender bath salt - beauty treatment

bowl of lavender bath salt – beauty treatment

  • Add 4-5 drops of Lavender oil

I find the Dead Sea Salts or Pink Himalayan salt work best.  I often mix up a large batch – just add the oil to the sea salts and store in a GLASS container.  (oils will leach into plastic over time).  This is the most relaxing bath and it is also great for your skin and hair.  You have got to give it a try!

Lavender oil is a great start when trying essential oils.  I have to say that not all essential oils are the same and I definitely recommend using 100% pure therapeutic grade oils.  Young Living is the company I trust because of their sead to seel guarantee.

I’ve Got an Oil for That!

You guys, I just LOVE my essential oils!  Those little bottles right there – they are so AMAZING!  In my house it is often heard – “Ask my mom, she’s got an oil for that”.  My whole family uses essential oils everyday.  We use them for better sleep, dealing with stress, better looking skin, coughs and sniffles, rashes, stomach aches, headaches . . . . oh just for everything.

Essential oils come from plants and flowers in nature.  They are extracted from the plants and then we have the pure oil to use.  Because oils are not medications our bodies just use what they need,  the oils bring balance in the body.  In other words, they give us what we need for our bodies to function well.  I don’t claim these oils heal disease or cure illness – but there is a lot of research out there to validate their use.  Just one example:

Frankincense has been studied by the National Institutes of Health and found to affect cancer cells.  Read the conclusion of the study here .

Essential oils have antioxidant properties, antimicrobial properties and are absorbed through the skin easily.  More scientific info from the NIH .

A lot of people enjoy the smell of essential oils.  They do smell good!  I diffuse them in my home to clear odors and for a “happy smell”.   Smelling those oils can actually affect your mood.  When you inhale something through your nose, the olfactory center carries those little molecules right up to the limbic system in our brain.  The limbic system is the seat of our emotions.  So just think about how some smells remind you of certain places or events.  Now it makes sense, right?  What we smell affects our emotional center.

Smelling_Lavender_large I sleep so much better after discovering an essential oil blend called Peace and Calming.  Using one drop on the bottom of my feet each night ends up in restful sleep and waking up feeling rested.  My whole family depends on this oil now.  One day my 6 year old granddaughter woke up looking like she had a rough night.  When we asked her what was wrong, she said “momma forgot to give us our oils last night”.   That pretty much is all the proof I need.

Here’s a word of warning.  Not all essential oils are the same.  I used to buy oils at the health food store.  They smelled good but I never really saw any results from them.  When I started using 100% pure, therapeutic grade essential oils I definitely noticed results.  So, the less expensive oils at the store and usually diluted with a carrier oil such as almond oil or jojoba oil.  Pure essential oils are expensive to produce and there is a limited number of plants available each season to harvest oils from.  The oils I use are from Young Living.  It is a company that has been in business for 20 years. They grow their own plants and oversee all the harvesting, distillation and packaging.  Here’s more info about the seed to seal guarantee .

For the next 10 days, I will be featuring a different oil each day here on the blog.  These will be basic oils that are inexpensive and have many uses.  Check back each day and I am sure you will learn some interesting things you never knew.  I love comments and questions – please let me know your thoughts or specific oils you are interested in.  Do you already use essential oils?  Tell us your favorites.

For more information check out this link with lots of useful oily info .  Have a great day – pay attention to the smells around you and see how they affect how you feel.   deboil20drop20bottle_full

About your skin . . .

Let’s talk about skin today, shall we?  The past few days I have talked to several people (friends, patients, coworkers) who have skin issues.  These people have everything from dry skin to rashes to acne.  I am amazed at how much money they are spending on expensive creams, dermatology appointments, prescription creams!  Seems to me if I went to a dermatologist every month, tried several different creams he/she recommended and a year later my skin still isn’t any better – I might just try something new.  Just sayin’.

Do we even really take care of our skin?  I don’t think most people do.  I think our skin is abused, neglected and crying out for help.scream

  • Our skin is the largest organ on our body.
  • The skin is a protector of our inner body, a covering.  It is porous – so anything we put on our skin is absorbed into our bodies through the pores and enters our blood stream in less than a minute.
  • Our skin gets thirsty and hungry.  When we don’t drink enough water, the skin cells can get dehydrated and shrink making our skin look dull and dry.
  • Collagen is a protein that gives our skin support and elasticity.   The collagen is damaged by cigarette smoking, ultraviolet rays from the sun and high sugar intake.

That’s the reason that slapping a little moisturizer on once in awhile doesn’t count as taking care of your skin.  We need to look at our diets – limit sugar intake, drink plenty of water, and eat protein which provides amino acids for collagen formation.  We do the most for our skin by feeding it from the inside.  Collagen in beauty creams is too big of a molecule to be absorbed through our pores it doesn’t feed our skin.

Be good to your skin – you never get a replacement.

I am really passionate about informing people about the toxins we put on our skin.  Since most of the things we put on our skin are quickly absorbed they then enter our bloodstream.  Are you even aware of what chemicals you put on your skin each day? Well, LET ME TELL YOU . . . . . .

Here’s an example:

Soap and shampoo – parabens, sulfates, triclosan, fragrance

Moisturizer – petroleum, phtalates, fragrance

Deodorant – triclosan, sulfates, fragrance

Now, here’s why you should be worried . . . . . . .

Parabens, Petroleum and many others are hormone disruptors.  They alter hormone levels in our body and can affect hormone production and have been shown to cause cancer.  That means in actual research these statements have been proven.  Why do you think our kids are maturing at a younger age.  Why do 8 year old girls have breasts and acne? Hormone levels affect our fertility, phthalates actually damage sperm.  Our products are altering our hormones!

Triclosan is widely used in deodarants and antibacterial soaps and toothpaste.  What is triclosan?  It is a hormone disruptor.  It harms our immune system. It causes bacteria to grow that resist antibiotics. It decreases thyroid function.  Triclosan is an aromatic compound and originally registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a pesticide.  In a 2008 study triclosan was found in the urine of 75% of people randomly tested.

Triclosan has been found in breast cancer tumors.

I don’t know about you – but I really don’t want these chemicals in my body.  So I try to keep them off of my skin.  Read those labels.  You need products without these chemicals. Chemicals and fragrances are actually irritating to our skin so don’t help with the very problems we are trying to solve.

Being Intentional

successWow – see how quick New Years Resolutions fade?  I haven’t posted on here in 3 weeks!  At least I haven’t been a total slacker – just been working on myself.  I was recently introduced to books by John Maxwell and have been reading “Intentional Living” . This book is a very easy read and is making a big difference in my life.  If you look at successful people, you will find that a majority of them live “intentionally”.  They have a plan for each day, and intentionally have certain habits.  Successful people don’t get there by chance, by being in the right place a the right time – they get there by living an intentional life.   This applies to everyone, no matter if you are an athlete, a student, a business person, a parent.   Having good intentions is just not enough – we have to take action not just think or wish.  This is where we achieve success – by acting on our good intentions.  It is a simple concept but sometimes it is easier and safer to think about doing something rather than actually taking action and doing it!

intentional“If you want to change the world, invest in helping another person to reach his or her potential”  J. Maxwell

Mr. Maxwell has written many books on self development, leadership and growth.  He is an excellent speaker and lives his life intentionally.  Check out his website linked above- I am participating in the 30 day journey of intentional living.  Already I see this concept changing my daily life and I have seen results in my business.  Have any of you read any John Maxwell books?  Comment and let me know what to read next 🙂

Take the first step today – take action and live intentionally.  Stop looking at your goals and “To Do” list and actually commit to doing one thing daily to help achieve your goal.

Let me know if this is helpful, especially if you follow through and start living intentionally!  deb
